Dermot Mulroney on Leaving Chicago Fire: ‘Sad to See it Go’ After Two Seasons

Dermot Mulroney is bidding farewell to NBC's Chicago Fire with a mix of gratitude and regret. The actor, who joined the long-running series in Season 13 as Chief Dom Pascal, will exit the drama early in its 15th season, which premieres on 7 October at 9 p.m. ET.

At Flash Weekend Chicago Horror Convention, Mulroney opened up about the departure for the first time since Variety reported the news on 3 August. "Loved every minute of it. Became friends with this incredible crew of people," he said, reflecting on his two-season arc.

The actor emphasised the creative challenges the show provided. "They wrote an incredible storyline that put me as an actor on a high challenge," Mulroney told the audience, according to People. "I loved every minute of it. Sad to see it go." He noted that his character has only one more episode left in Season 15 before being written off.

A Meaningful Role

Despite his brief tenure, Mulroney's character has resonated with viewers. "I can't tell you how many people come up, and they'd much rather have an autograph on Scream VI, but they ask for Chief Pascal for their dad," he shared. "It's an amazing thing to see and that's how meaningful that is."

The departure marks a significant transition for the series. Mulroney's exit comes shortly after original cast member Joe Miñoso announced his own departure from the drama. Miñoso's character, firefighter Joe Cruz, will also be written off in Season 15.

For Mulroney, the Chicago Fire chapter closes on a high note creatively. "We gave it our all for two seasons," he reflected, suggesting that both the cast and crew invested fully in bringing his character to life. The actor's involvement in the series added a seasoned presence to the ensemble, though his time on the show proved shorter than initially anticipated.
