BTS sweeps North America on ‘Arirang’ tour as cities roll out official tributes
Toronto names a street 'BTS Boulevard' and Maryland's governor welcomes the group in video as the K-pop seven-member group sweeps North America.
BTS is collecting more than ticket sales on its "Arirang" world tour across North America. The seven-member group is drawing official civic tributes that reflect their cultural reach beyond music.
Toronto City Council has approved a temporary co-naming of a stretch of Yonge Street in North York as "BTS Boulevard" from 21 August to 23 September, coinciding with the group's concerts on 22 and 23 August. The council has also requested that the city proclaim those dates "BTS Weekend." According to Yonhap, BigHit Music confirmed that Toronto's government contacted the agency to seek approval for the street naming and the weekend proclamation.
The recognition extends beyond Canada. Maryland Governor Wes Moore posted a welcome video on social media ahead of BTS's Baltimore performances on 10 and 11 August at M&T Bank Stadium. "Seven guys with one mission — bringing the world together and transcending cultural, geographical and language barriers," Moore said, naming each member individually: RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook. The video included Korean subtitles alongside English captions.
BTS's North American leg follows a European tour that included concerts in London, Paris and Munich. The group is scheduled to perform at AT&T Stadium in Arlington on 15 and 16 August, with additional dates across the continent. The "Arirang" tour marks the group's return to the stage after completing mandatory military service, with the Seoul-based dates having launched the world tour in April at Goyang Stadium.
Other jurisdictions have extended similar welcomes. El Paso County in Texas presented BTS with an "Estimado Amigo" (Dear Friend) award and proclaimed the day of the group's concert "El Paso BTS Weekend." In Mexico City, President Claudia Sheinbaum presented commemorative plaques to the members, whilst French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife attended a concert in Paris. These gestures underscore how BTS's cultural influence now translates into diplomatic-level recognition across North America and beyond.
