Editorial Standards

The Asia Spotlight is published under the editorial standards of the Asia Press Centre Group, which apply to every title, editor and contributor in the network. This page states how those standards work in practice at The Asia Spotlight. The full Group standards are published at asiapresscentre.org.

1. Editorial independence

Coverage in The Asia Spotlight cannot be bought. Advertisers, sponsors and partners have no influence over what we report or how we report it. Editorial judgment rests with our editors alone — it is not for sale.

2. Separation of newsroom and business

Our journalists do not sell advertising; our commercial colleagues do not edit journalism. Partner-funded content is produced by the Group’s studio division, outside the newsroom, and is always labelled as such.

3. Clear labelling of commercial content

Sponsored, commissioned or partner-funded material is clearly marked wherever it appears — on the page, in newsletters and on social platforms. We do not publish disguised advertising.

4. Accuracy and verification

We check claims before we publish them. Figures are traced to their origins; quotations are rendered faithfully; context is not stripped away to sharpen a headline. Speed never excuses error.

5. Sources and attribution

We attribute information to its origin wherever possible. Anonymity is granted only for genuine cause, and syndicated or agency material is identified as such.

6. Corrections

When we get something wrong, we say so — promptly, visibly and with a note recording what changed. Our full policy, and how to request a correction, is set out on our Corrections page.

7. Responsible use of AI

Our journalists may use AI tools for research and production. Two rules are absolute: a human editor remains accountable for everything we publish, and AI is never used to fabricate sources, quotations or reporting.

8. Conflicts of interest

Editors and contributors must disclose any interest in the subjects they cover. Gifts, hospitality and access are weighed against a single test: would accepting them compromise our readers’ trust?

9. Accountability
