Lee Jung-hoo extends hitless streak as Giants fall in 10 innings

Lee Jung-hoo recorded his second consecutive hitless performance on 10 August, going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts as the San Francisco Giants fell to the Detroit Tigers in 10 innings.

The 28-year-old South Korean outfielder, batting second and playing right field, struggled throughout the contest against Tigers starter Troy Melton. In the first inning, Lee struck out on three pitches—two cutters inside followed by a splitter outside. Later at-bats saw similar difficulties: a fly ball to centre field in the third inning, a sacrifice bunt attempt in the eighth that yielded an out, and a final strikeout swinging at a 95.5-mph sinker in the eighth inning with runners on first and second.

The offensive struggles proved costly for San Francisco. Lee's continued slump dropped his season batting average to .298, below the .300 threshold, whilst his on-base plus slugging percentage fell to .774. The Giants' anemic offence managed just seven hits despite starter Logan Webb's dominant performance—eight innings, four hits, one earned run, five strikeouts.

Detroit broke through in the sixth inning when Kevin McGonigal's right-field single put runners on the corners, and a double play scored one run. San Francisco tied the game in the seventh on a fielding error at third base. In the 10th, with a runner at second base in the tiebreaker format, Detroit's Hao-Yu Lee singled to right and Spencer Torkelson added another right-field hit to set up a 3-1 lead. The Giants could not answer, with three consecutive strikeouts against Troy Holton.
