Boy George has withdrawn from Jesus Christ Superstar at the London Palladium, stepping aside from the production just days before his scheduled debut. The Culture Club frontman was set to play King Herod from 3 to 15 August as part of the show's rotating cast. Richard Armitage, the current performer in the role, will cover George's dates.

George's manager Paul Kemsley announced the departure on 30 July, stating the decision was made "with the utmost respect for the producers, the creative team and the entire company." Kemsley did not provide an explicit reason but noted that George "has never been afraid to stand by his personal convictions." The announcement comes days after George released a controversial pro-Israel reggae track titled "We Will Dance Again," which opens with the line "You say genocide, I say war." The song also critiques musicians who have publicly backed Palestine.

George confirmed he used artificial intelligence to produce the track, describing it as "AI for good." The release drew criticism from several figures in the entertainment industry, including Martyn Ware, founder of The Human League, who called it "overtly pro-genocide, anti-Palestinian piece of musical propaganda." Patrick Clanton, who worked alongside George in Broadway's Moulin Rouge!, said he was "embarrassed" to have collaborated with him.

Meanwhile, Culture Club recently announced a December UK arena tour with ABC and Haircut 100, titled The Singles, which is set to proceed as scheduled.
