Flyers Lock Up Trevor Zegras With 4-Year, $36.5M Extension After Career-Best Season

The Philadelphia Flyers have re-signed forward Trevor Zegras to a four-year contract extension worth $36.5 million, the team announced on Wednesday, according to The Athletic.

The deal carries an annual average value of roughly $9.1 million and keeps the 25-year-old off the restricted free agent market. It replaces the three-year, $17.25 million contract Zegras originally signed with the Anaheim Ducks, a significant raise that reflects his production in his first year in Philadelphia.

A career year after the trade

Zegras arrived in Philadelphia in June 2025, dealt from Anaheim in exchange for Ryan Poehling and two draft picks. In 2025-26 he posted a career-high 67 points across 81 games, finishing second on the Flyers in scoring and co-leading the team in assists with 41. His 26 goals were also a personal best, as was a nine-game point streak from Dec. 9 to Dec. 23.

The season marked his first playoff appearance in six years in the league. In 10 postseason games he recorded two goals and four assists as the Flyers pushed into a second-round series against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Position flexibility

Zegras spent most of the regular season on left wing, typically alongside center Christian Dvorak. After the trade deadline, the Flyers moved him to center, where he produced 17 points (five goals, 12 assists) over 20 games during the team's late-season run into the playoffs.

Where he lines up next season remains open. According to The Athletic, that will likely depend on roster moves general manager Daniel Brière makes before the season opens. Either way, Zegras projects as a fixture in the team's core.

Fit with Tocchet

Zegras carried a reputation for flash during his time in Anaheim, and Flyers coach Rick Tocchet addressed it directly before the season, questioning whether the forward was in the league for attention or to win. Tocchet later spoke favorably about coaching him.

"The one thing with Trevor I love, you can give it to him," Tocchet said after Game 3 of the Carolina series, per The Athletic, noting that Zegras "doesn't pout, takes it."

Zegras had signaled his intent to stay before the deal was done. "I would love to be here for a long time," he said in his final media session of the season, adding that he valued the group and the fan base.

The extension gives Philadelphia cost certainty on a top-six forward through the length of the term as the front office reshapes the roster around a returning playoff group.
