Actor Hwang Jung-min’s stalker faces 10 million won fine recommendation
Prosecutors recommend a 10 million won fine against the defendant accused of stalking actor Hwang Jung-min, citing lengthy harassment and threatening posts.
A South Korean court heard closing arguments on 11 August in the stalking case against a person identified as A, who stands accused of harassing actor Hwang Jung-min. Prosecutors recommended a fine of 10 million won, citing the extended duration of the harassment, excessive frequency of contact, and threatening posts made on social media.
The case was heard at Goyang Branch of Uijeongbu District Court. Prosecutors argued that Hwang Jung-min's legal team had submitted a petition requesting severe punishment, which they asked the court to consider alongside the documented offences.
The defendant disputed the characterisation of their actions as one-sided stalking. In a final statement, they acknowledged "doing things I should not have done" but claimed the relationship was reciprocal. "Someone contacted me first, and there were mutual agreements between us," they said, asking the court to review the full record rather than accepting a narrative of unilateral pursuit.
The defendant also expressed distress at learning of the stalking complaint, describing the moment as shocking. However, they maintained that the evidence would show the situation was more complex than a straightforward stalking case.
Hwang Jung-min's legal representative declined to comment on the prosecution's recommendation, stating only that they would defer to the court's judgment. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for 8 September at 10:00 KST.
