Disney+ has greenlit a new Japanese original anthology series titled 'The One Shot', marking a regional expansion of prestige drama production across East Asia.

According to Oricon News, the streaming platform commissioned eight episodes for the series, with a December premiere date. Each standalone episode will be 12 minutes in length, allowing for serialised storytelling across the run.

The project pairs South Korean actor Park Hae-jin with a primarily Japanese creative team. Park will headline the anthology's narrative arc, performing opposite eight other cast members who rotate through the episodes. The production is helmed by FANY Studio, a subsidiary known for high-volume television work.

The series draws conceptual DNA from two narrative pillars: "daily life" and "bonds". According to the Oricon report, this thematic framework guides how each episode explores interpersonal connection. The ensemble structure—with Park anchoring storylines that shift across cast members—invites comparisons to episodic dramas popular in Japan, where character-driven narratives often prioritise emotional specificity over continuity.

The casting of Park represents a strategic move by Disney+ to leverage established K-drama recognition within Japanese and broader Asian markets. Park's prior television work has established him within regional audiences, positioning him as a familiar anchor across unfamiliar, rotating narratives. The series launches during a period of intensified investment in Asian original content by global streamers, following successful K-drama and J-drama releases that have demonstrated audience appetite for regionally produced prestige television.

'The One Shot' premieres on Disney+ in December, with weekly episode releases scheduled through the season's conclusion.
