Lee Jae-ho hits career-high ninth home run as Giants fall in extras
Lee Jae-ho drove in his ninth home run of the season as San Francisco lost in extra innings to Houston.
Lee Jae-ho set a new single-season home run record on 11 August, going 2-for-5 with a solo shot in San Francisco's loss to Houston. The 28-year-old Giants outfielder, batting leadoff, connected on a 92.5 mph fastball in the fifth inning with two outs and no one on base, driving the ball 116 metres to centre-right field for an 2-1 lead.
The ninth home run of his 2026 season surpasses his previous career high of eight, set last year. The blast also lifted his season batting average back to .300 (124 hits in 414 at-bats), with an on-base plus slugging percentage of .782. Later in the game, Lee added a single in the eighth inning off reliever Steven Okert.
The Giants could not hold their advantage. Houston tied the game in the ninth, forcing extra innings. In the tenth, the Astros scored again when Jose Altuve delivered a two-run double, giving Houston a 4-2 win. San Francisco fell to 49-70, dropping into third place in the National League West, while Houston (61-59) maintained its lead in the American League West.
