Former professional baseball pitcher Eom Jung-wook has responded to his surprise wedding announcement with actress Jian, sharing reflections on how she has changed him.
In a personal statement shared on 9 August, Eom described himself as someone who was once reserved and rarely smiled, before meeting Jian. "I met someone who makes me lively and makes me laugh," he wrote, adding that the experience showed him he could change in ways he never expected. He expressed gratitude to his fiancée for believing in him despite having "nothing," and asked for warm support from the public.
Jian announced the engagement on 8 August with a wedding dress photo, revealing she had decided to marry Eom, a former pitcher for SK Wyverns known for throwing one of the fastest pitches in Korean baseball history. She described their courtship as "short but deep," and said she became certain that he was the person she wanted to spend her life with. On her decision to marry, Jian said Eom possessed a warm heart shaped by his parents' love, always thinking of others first. She pledged to build a household full of laughter as each other's best friend and reliable partner.
Jian, 44, debuted through the 2003 National Chunhyang Competition and has appeared in films including Scary Stories 3 and Serve the People. Eom began his professional career in 2000 with the Ssangbanguel Raiders.
