Malaysian actor Kamarool Yusoff, known as Cik Man, dies at 68
Malaysian actor Kamarool Yusoff, known as Cik Man and a star of 1980s Malay cinema, has died at 68.
Veteran Malaysian actor Kamarool Yusoff, affectionately known as Cik Man, died on Wednesday, 5 August at Tanah Merah Hospital in Kelantan. He was 68.
The late actor, recognised for iconic Malay films including 1986's Gila Gila Remaja and Rock, was admitted to hospital following complaints of stomach pain. His son Fakhrol told Malaysian media that Kamarool's condition deteriorated when he developed severe stomach and back pain. "We urged him to go to the hospital but he initially refused," Fakhrol said. "However, because his pain became unbearable, we brought him to the hospital for treatment."
According to his son, Kamarool had suffered a heart attack two years prior but had recovered well. His daughter, Nurul Najihah Kamarozaman, confirmed he would be laid to rest in Kelantan on Thursday.
Tributes have flooded social media from fellow entertainers and public figures. Fahmi Fadzil, Malaysia's Minister of Communications, wrote that Kamarool was "a true legend who made a huge impact on Malaysia's film industry" and "a highly respected figure, not only within the acting industry but also among lovers of the arts across the country." Members of comedy troupe Senario, singer-actress Ara Johari and comedian Shuib Sepahtu also paid their respects.
