Thai beauty brands establish Southeast Asian foothold with tropical-first approach
Thai beauty brands are expanding across Southeast Asia with formulas designed for tropical climates, creating a distinct movement separate from K-beauty and J-beauty.

Thai beauty is reshaping the regional cosmetics landscape as local brands expand beyond Bangkok into Southeast Asia's major markets. Unlike K-beauty's multi-step routines or J-beauty's minimalist ethos, Thailand's beauty movement—known as T-beauty—stakes its identity on functionality for tropical climates: sunscreens engineered for humidity, long-wearing makeup and skincare formulated for Southeast Asian skin conditions.
The shift accelerated dramatically in the 2020s. Heritage names like Srichand (founded in 1948) and mass-market label Mistine, which had long served domestic consumers, found themselves reaching international audiences through TikTok and Instagram recommendations. What were once Bangkok pharmacies' closely guarded finds now appear on shelves in Singapore and across e-commerce platforms region-wide.
Timing favours the movement. Thailand's beauty and personal care market generated THB270 billion (approximately US$8.08 billion) in retail sales in 2025, according to Euromonitor International. The Commerce Ministry has flagged cosmetics as a "rising star" industry, with new beauty company registrations jumping 20 per cent. Simultaneously, Thai soft power is gaining global traction: actors like Bright Vachirawit and Win Metawin have secured luxury ambassador roles with Burberry and Prada, broadening international appetite for Thai fashion, food and lifestyle exports—beauty among them.
T-beauty's expansion reflects a broader regional shift. Consumers increasingly value products engineered for their climate rather than adapted from Western formulas, establishing Thailand as a distinct beauty hub distinct from its East Asian counterparts.
