Korean Remake of The Intern Arrives in September with Choi Min-sik and Han So-hee
A Korean remake of The Intern starring Choi Min-sik and Han So-hee premieres 16 September, following the original's success with Korean audiences.

A Korean adaptation of the 2015 Hollywood film "The Intern" will premiere in South Korean cinemas on 16 September, according to Warner Brothers Korea. The remake stars actor Choi Min-sik and Han So-hee, who take on roles inspired by the original's central partnership.
In this version, Han plays Sun-woo, a fashion entrepreneur driving the story's core conflict, whilst Choi portrays Ki-ho, an intern navigating a career spanning 37 years. Director Kim Do-young, who previously helmed the 2025 romantic drama "Once We Were Us" (itself a remake of the Chinese film "Us and Them"), takes creative control of the project.
The original film, released by Warner Brothers and starring Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro, resonated strongly with Korean audiences, drawing 3.6 million moviegoers domestically. That commercial success underscores the appetite for this story in the region, suggesting the studio's confidence in the local adaptation's potential reach.
The remake arrives amid a broader trend of Hollywood properties finding new life through regional reimaginings. South Korea's film industry has increasingly looked to established international franchises as source material, allowing local talent and storytelling sensibilities to reshape narratives for domestic and regional audiences. Kim Do-young's track record with recent adaptations positions him to navigate both the emotional core and comedic timing that made the original resonate globally.
Releases 16 September in South Korean cinemas.
