Ariana Grande is withdrawing from public-facing work after completing the Eternal Sunshine Tour in September, her representative confirmed to People. The decision means the singer will not appear in the West End revival of Stephen Sondheim's Sunday in the Park With George, a stage project that would have marked her theatrical debut alongside her former Wicked co-star Jonathan Bailey.

The announcement comes as fans have expressed concern about Grande's wellbeing based on her appearance across tour dates, public outings and recent music videos. In a statement, her representative framed the retreat as a necessary step after months of intensive performing. "She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny," the statement read.

The Final Tour Stretch

Grande has 13 remaining dates on her headlining tour before the September 1 conclusion. The schedule includes three shows in Chicago followed by ten concerts in London. According to her representative, the tour has been physically demanding. "She performs a very physical show, and there is a lot of athleticism involved. She performs healthily and successfully at a very high level night after night," a source close to Grande told People.

This marks her first tour in nearly seven years. The Eternal Sunshine Tour has drawn from her 2024 album Eternal Sunshine and 2020's Positions, with occasional appearances from tracks on her latest project Petal, including "Hate That I Made You Love Me".

A Strategic Pause

While Grande is stepping away from live performance and public appearances, she will maintain her film commitments. She is set to appear in Focker-in-Law, the latest instalment in the Meet the Parents franchise, arriving in cinemas on 25 November.

The decision reflects a broader pattern among major touring artists who cite the psychological toll of constant visibility and public commentary. Grande's retreat suggests a prioritisation of personal wellbeing over the relentless cycle of promotion and appearances that typically follows a successful album cycle. Her statement emphasises that the break is intended to be restorative rather than indefinite—a distinction that leaves space for her eventual return to public life on her own terms.

Fans invested in Grande's next moves will need to wait until after her tour concludes to know when she might resurface, though her film appearance suggests the boundary between retreat and absence remains fluid.
