Spider-Man 4 breaks South Korean box office with 680,000 opening-day viewers
Tom Holland's Spider-Man 4 attracts 688,000 South Korean viewers on opening day, setting a 2026 box office record and surpassing all previous franchise entries.

The latest Spider-Man film claimed South Korea's box office crown on its opening day, drawing more than 680,000 moviegoers and setting a new high for any domestic release this year.
According to Yonhap News Agency, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" attracted approximately 688,000 viewers on Wednesday, capturing 83.2 per cent of all ticket sales, according to data from the Korean Film Council. The figure represents the strongest opening day for any film released in South Korea in 2026, eclipsing earlier releases including Na Hong-jin's sci-fi thriller "Hope" (333,000 on opening day) and Yeon Sang-ho's zombie thriller "Colony" (199,000).
The fourth installment, starring Tom Holland, also surpassed the opening-day performance of its franchise predecessors. "Spider-Man: Far From Home" (2019) drew 670,000 viewers on its first day in South Korea, while "Spider-Man: No Way Home" (2021) reached 630,000 and "Spider-Man: Homecoming" (2017) garnered 540,000, according to Sony Pictures, the local distributor.
The film follows an adult Peter Parker as he confronts new threats while facing the consequence of being forgotten by everyone around him, including his girlfriend MJ (Zendaya) and best friend Ned (Jacob Batalon). The dominance marks a significant shift in the South Korean box office landscape: "Hope" slipped to second place after holding the top position for 14 consecutive days since its release on 15 July, collecting approximately 87,000 viewers on Wednesday and accumulating 3.7 million admissions.
The strong debut signals the enduring appeal of the Spider-Man franchise in South Korea and reflects broader momentum for Hollywood tentpole releases in Asian markets as cinemas compete for audience attention across major franchise tentpoles and local productions.
