Spider-Man: Brand New Day achieved a box office milestone on its second day in South Korean cinemas, becoming the fastest film of 2026 to attract 1 million moviegoers. According to Sony Pictures, the fourth instalment of the Spider-Man franchise, starring Tom Holland, reached the threshold on Thursday afternoon, just 24 hours after its Wednesday release.

The achievement surpassed the previous 2026 record held by Na Hong-jin's sci-fi thriller Hope, which required three days to reach the same milestone after its 15 July debut. Among Marvel properties, the new Spider-Man film matched the performance of Avengers: Infinity War (2018), which similarly crossed 1 million admissions in two days, Sony Pictures said.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day posted the biggest opening-day audience of any 2026 release, drawing 688,000 viewers on Wednesday, according to the Korean Film Council. The figure eclipsed Hope's opening-day attendance of 333,000 and Yeon Sang-ho's zombie thriller Colony, which drew 199,000 on its first day. The film also outperformed the opening-day results of previous Spider-Man entries: Homecoming (2017) with 540,000, Far From Home (2019) with 670,000 and No Way Home (2021) with 630,000.

The film follows Peter Parker as he contends with new adversaries while navigating the consequences of being forgotten by everyone around him, including his girlfriend MJ (Zendaya) and best friend Ned (Jacob Batalon). Hope, which had held the top position for 14 consecutive days, slipped to second place in the daily box office chart on Wednesday, accumulating 3.7 million viewers and drawing approximately 87,000 on its second Wednesday.

The rapid ascent of Spider-Man: Brand New Day reflects the enduring appeal of the Marvel franchise in South Korea, a market where superhero films consistently perform at the cinema, particularly when driven by established stars and high-budget spectacle.
