Soundgarden's long-awaited final album is now being mixed, drummer Matt Cameron has announced. The record will feature eight songs with late frontman Chris Cornell's vocals, recorded during sessions before his death in 2017.

In an appearance on the Let There Be Talk podcast, Cameron outlined the album's progress without confirming a release date. "We're just gonna try to get this thing mixed, get it over the finish line, and then hopefully we'll have a better idea what's gonna come next," he said. "We're just taking it one step at a time 'cause it's been kind of a long process just to get to here."

The band hinted at new material on the eighth anniversary of Cornell's passing in 2025, writing that "it feels good and invigorating to hear Chris singing from over that horizon." That followed a 2023 legal settlement with Cornell's estate that granted Soundgarden rights to unreleased songs. By late 2025, the group indicated they were "pretty close" to finishing the record.

Cameron noted the eight vocal tracks represent the complete catalogue of Cornell material available for the album. The band also possesses instrumental recordings that guitarist Kim Thayil may develop further. "Maybe we'll do some new stuff together, which would be fine by me," Cameron added.
