Kim Se Jeong, Bae Hyeon Seong, and Cho Han Gyul Lead New Webtoon Drama High School Queen

Studio Dragon has greenlit High School Queen, a webtoon adaptation pairing Kim Se Jeong, Bae Hyeon Seong, and Cho Han Gyul in a time-slip action romance set to debut in 2027.

The drama follows Kim Chung Ha, the greatest warrior of Joseon and a queen consort, who awakens 400 years later trapped in the body of a high school student. Stripped of her royal status but not her fighting instincts, she becomes an unlikely avenger—using martial prowess and royal dignity to dismantle the bullies who run her new school.

Kim Se Jeong anchors the cast as the dual-timeline protagonist. In a statement, the actor noted the role synthesises characters across her career: "This character contains all the diverse sides of the roles I've played so far, so I am preparing with both excitement and a sense of responsibility." She is currently undergoing action stunt training alongside her scripting work.

Bae Hyeon Seong takes on a split identity as well: Seong Won Joo, the royal guard devoted to Kim Chung Ha in Joseon times, and Seong Si Woo, the kendo club captain in the present day. "The story itself, which blends everything from action to romance and fantasy, was interesting and fun," he said, emphasising the appeal of showing contrasting character facets across time periods.

Cho Han Gyul completes the triangle as Lee Nyeong, the commanding Joseon king, and Lee Do Yoon, an enigmatic transfer student with unclear motives. The casting adds intrigue to what Studio Dragon describes as a narrative where "character depth and episode-by-episode thrills are significant."

The production marks a notable convergence of established television talent within Korea's webtoon-to-screen pipeline. Studio Dragon's track record includes Descendants of the Sun and Itaewon Class—both global hits that tested the durability of high-concept premises. High School Queen attempts to thread a finer needle: comedy, historical fantasy, and social commentary in a single frame.
